Rutherford Democratic Club Honors Maura Keyes 3/13/2009
The Rutherford Democratic Club honored Maura Keyes as Democrat of the Year at their Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner held on Friday evening, March 13th, at the Rutherford Elk's Club...
About 140 people came out to celebrate the festive event that featured live music by "The SHOTS" (including members of the Bergen County Firefighters Pipe & Drum Band), a dance ceremony by the Ardmore Academy of Irish Dancers, and a traditional St. Patrick's Day Buffet with an open bar.
Assemblyman, Fred Scalera, of the 36th District, was the first speaker to open the evening events congratulating Maura on her local involvement and dedication to the residents of Rutherford. Assemblyman Scalera presented Maura with a Joint Legislation Resolution from The New Jersey Senate & General Assembly as requested by state Senator Paul Sarlo and Assemblymen, Fred Scalera and Gary Schaer (and executed by the President of the Senate, Richard Codey, and Speaker of the Assembly, Joseph Roberts, Jr.).
Dennis McNerney, Bergen County Executive, thanked Maura for her "steadfast loyalty" and for working to make Rutherford a stronger, better place to live and to raise a family.
Bernadette McPherson, Bergen County Freeholder and former Rutherford mayor, who helped to organize the gala evening and who referred to Maura as a "friend", acknowledged Maura with a Proclamation of service from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders in recognition of Maura's commitment to Rutherford. Bernadettle also presented Maura with a photo montage taken during various events from Maura's last six years as councilmember.
President of the Rutherford Democratic Club, Richard Reyes, officially presented Maura with the Club's "Democrat Of The Year" Plaque inscribed with recognition for both "Outstanding Service" and "Dedication".
Of the larger than expected turnout, Rutherford's Bravest presented Maura with a replica Fire Department Commissioner's jacket as a token of their appreciation for her commitment in representing the firefighters as council liaison to the Rutherford Fire Department.
Many of Maura's family came in from as far as Ireland and upstate New York & Queens to join in the celebration. All were genuinely impressed by the level of recognition for Maura's work and service to the town.
The Keyes Family would like to sincerely thank all of those who were able to attend and to those who expressed their well wishes in other ways... Also, Maura would like to especially thank Bernadette McPherson and Denise Ross - who without their efforts - this year's St. Patrick's Day Dinner would not have been such a huge success. "My special thanks also to Congressman Steve Rothman, Senator Sarlo, Assemblymen Scalera and Schaer, County Executive McNerney, Bergen County Freeholders Carroll, McPherson, Calabrese, Ganz, Padilla, and O'Brien, Bergen County Sheriff McGuire, and Rutherford Councilmember Birdsall for all of their support!"
